Pain while wearing a tool belt

Hi, all. I'm in the electrical trade and am hoping to find a solution to lower back and knee pain while I'm wearing a tool belt or apron. I tried wearing a tool belt with and without suspenders but the suspenders didn't seem to help much. So I switched to wearing a lightweight apron in the front and carrying only what I need but still find I wake up most days with a stiff back and sore knees after wearing it. The apron itself is fairly light, but it can weigh anywhere between 5 and 8 lbs when carrying tools. I've thought about trying a different pair of suspenders but I am unsure if distributing the load this way would be any healthier over the long haul. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could carry the tools I need without the pain?

Hi Ryan-

thanks for the question. The most important thing you can do is activate your inner corset. I like using a deep breath, bracing, ribs anchored and no sway in you back.

The other thing is to hip hinge when bending. Leading with the pelvis and not head.

it sounds like you'd benefit from a consult with a teacher in your area who can observe your movements.

I also suggest getting Stuart McGill's book The Back Mechanic to really assess your pain.

I wish you well,
